This $50,000 Plymouth Road Runner Features “Machine Gun” Tailpipes And A Pistol-Grip Shifter

This 1971 Plymouth Road Runner had been modified with the installation of a rebuilt 440ci V8. A subsequent refurbishment that was completed in 2017 involved installing a trio of Holley two-barrel carburetors as well as replacing the four-speed manual transmission, repainting the car in Winchester Gray, and refreshing the black vinyl interior. Features include Rallye 15″ wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential, a partial black vinyl roof, an Air Grabber hood, an AM radio, a center console, and a Hurst pistol-grip shifter. The differential was rebuilt and the car’s glass and tires were replaced in 2025. This modified Road Runner was sold on 10/10/2025 for $50,000.

Finished from the factory in Winchester Gray Metallic (GA4), the car was repainted in 2015 following replacement of the quarter panels. A black-accented Air Grabber hood has been added, and black strobe stripes stretch over the side pillars. The canopy-style black vinyl roof also was replaced, and other equipment includes Road Runner graphics, “machine gun” dual tailpipes, dual side mirrors in chrome housings, a fender-mounted antenna, hood-securing pins, tri-section side-marker lights, and quad headlights. The vehicle has a fuselage-style chrome front bumper, and the chrome rear bumper surrounds the taillights.

Rallye-style 15″ wheels are mounted with staggered-width BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that are said to have been replaced in 2025. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The car is equipped with power steering.

The front bucket seats and the rear bench were retrimmed in black vinyl in 2014, at which point the carpeting was replaced. Interior appointments include a center console, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, lap belts, woodgrain trim, a Chrysler Solid State AM radio, a cabin heater, and front and rear seatbelts.

A three-spoke steering wheel with a Road Runner “Beep! Beep!” center cap fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator status. The five-digit odometer showed 81k miles at the time of sale. However, the previous owner stated that the odometer reading is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown.

The 440ci V8 is said to have been rebuilt before being installed in this car in 2013, and a “Six Pack” setup of three Holley two-barrel carburetors was adapted in 2017. The camshaft and the fuel lines had been replaced in 2014, and the vehicle also is equipped with exhaust headers. The car’s chassis number indicates that it was originally powered by a 383ci V8.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Brewer’s Performance 18-spline four-speed manual transmission. The Sure-Grip limited-slip differential has 3.23:1 gearing and was rebuilt in 2025. The transmission lacks a serial number.

The fender tag indicates that the vehicle is a Plymouth Road Runner coupe (RM23) that left the factory equipped with a 383ci V8 featuring a four-barrel carburetor (E65) along with a four-speed manual transmission (D21). The tag also reveals that the car was originally finished in Winchester Gray Metallic (GA4) with a canopy-style black vinyl roof (V4X) over front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in charcoal and black vinyl (M6XA). The tag conveys further information such as the A87 Road Runner Decor Package and the V21 performance hood.
