Rare 825 HP Shelby Super Snake Speedster With Just 78 Miles
The Super Snake name has its origins in the one-off Shelby GT500 Super Snake experimental car from the 1960s, built by Shelby as a demonstrator for Goodyear and its Thunderbolt tires. In the current Shelby Mustang-based lineup, the modern Super Snake holds the position of the range-topper. Aside from powertrain enhancements, the car also features aerodynamic and chassis upgrades, along with distinctive interior details such as a custom instrument cluster.
In its speedster configuration, the Super Snake becomes a strict two-seater, featuring a customized tonneau cover over the rear. Optionally, a wide-body kit is available to impart a more robust appearance. Additional choices include a track-ready suspension package from Penske.
A 2022 example, finished in Oxford White with Azure Blue stripes over Ebony leather upholstery, is currently listed for sale on Bring a Trailer. The Speedster Edition boasts a unique body-color Speedster tonneau cover, along with Super Snake-specific exterior details like a dual-intake ram air hood, front splitter, widened aluminum front fenders, revised fascias, rocker panels, carbon-fiber mirror caps, a rear spoiler, and a Shelby-branded taillight panel.
Equipped with a Shelby-tuned Borla exhaust system, 20″ forged aluminum wheels, Brembo brakes, a Shelby Performance Track Handling Suspension, Shelby rear half-shafts, and Shelby transmission and brake cooling systems, the car also features heated, cooled, and power-adjustable front seats. The SYNC 3 infotainment system includes voice-activated navigation, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, and adaptive cruise control.
Under the hood, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with Super Snake-specific modifications, including a polished Whipple supercharger, Shelby Extreme Cooling system, performance intake, billet throttle body, and high-performance fuel injectors, delivers 825 horsepower. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential with 3.55:1 gearing.
