One of 500 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429
The Boss 429, featuring the “semi-hemi” 429-cubic-inch V-8 engine, was introduced in mid-1969 to homologate the engine for NASCAR and NHRA drag racing. To meet the requirement of producing a minimum of 500 units for public consumption to run the engine in series racing, the Mustang was chosen over the more fitting Ford Torino.
Kar Kraft of Brighton, Michigan, had to make significant modifications to squeeze the big-block into the Mustang’s engine bay. These changes were necessary to accommodate the massive headers of the engine, which was officially quoted at 375 horsepower but likely closer to 500 horsepower. The Boss 429 had a no-nonsense appearance with no flashy striping or extravagant features, except for the callouts on the front fenders.
According to its listing on Bring A Trailer, this 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is one of around 500 examples produced for the model year. It was given the Kar Kraft number 2135 before being delivered to Bill Hanna Ford in Shreveport, Louisiana. The car underwent refurbishment under previous ownership and was acquired by the seller in 2021.
Painted in Grabber Blue with white vinyl upholstery, it is equipped with a 429ci Cobra Jet Boss V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car features a Competition Suspension, the Drag Pack, 15″ Magnum 500 wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, a front spoiler, a center console, a Hurst shifter, a tachometer, the Decor Group, and a Philco AM radio.
Presented in excellent condition and offered with 52k miles on the odometer, this 1970 Boss 429 offers a rare opportunity for Mustang aficionados to own a piece of automotive legend.
