Dennis Collins Found A ’68 Mustang With Lower Miles Than A New Car

Barn finds are always fun, but they don’t always end up being super valuable once the dust settles. Sometimes, it’s more about the fact that a car has sat undisturbed for so long, like this 1968 Ford Mustang. The late ’60s Mustang is a classic muscle car that remains highly collectible, and although it seems like there are many of them out there, the numbers are dwindling every year.
An Extremely Low Mileage 1968 Ford Mustang
Dennis Collins is the king of barn finds, but even he was impressed with the mileage on this ’68 Mustang. Collins is no stranger to the Mustang in all of its forms, like this “over-restored” pristine Shelby, a 1968 GT500KR from a garage in Arizona, and even the Holy Grail 1968.5 R-Code Ford Mustang. However, this one is still pretty special. This Mustang is finished in Highland Green Metallic, and it does look very clean. The owner says it was driven for maybe a month before opting to take the bus instead.
Thanks to its comfortable home, this Mustang racked up only 1,031 miles. For a 57-year-old car, that is an astonishingly low mileage. The current owners have only added 18 miles, and although it attended a few events, it was transported in a trailer.
Even the interior is in excellent condition. Collins says it is finished in light and dark ivy, but it looks much more impressive than it is. The seats, dashboard, and headline are pristine, and everything matches well with the exterior color.
The Mustang Secrets Are In The VIN

My favorite part of any Dennis Collins video is when he decodes the VIN on the fly. He finds that the ’68 Mustang has a 6-cylinder engine, which was the standard engine for that year. That is determined by the T in the VIN. The R designates the Highland Green Metallic paint, and 2G indicates the dark/light ivy interior.
The 47 tells us this Mustang was built in Cincinnati, the 4 tells us it’s a four-axle, and the W tells us it has a C4 automatic transmission. Plus, it has power steering! He also mentions that it has Ford air conditioning, which was added at the dealership.
There’s a sticker on the door that indicates this Mustang had an oil change at 456 miles. Since then, it hasn’t gone very far. But the crazy thing is that it is in such great shape. The Mustang doesn’t even have dust on it – it looks like it just rolled off the production line yesterday. And it runs like it did, too.
What’s A Low-Mileage ’68 Mustang Worth?

There are a LOT of comps on Classic.com, but none of them come close to the low mileage this one has. There are a few with less than 1,000 miles, and one is a ’68 Fasback Restomod with 1,300 miles that sold for $349,900 this time last year. There are a few similar ones listed between $200,000 and $300,000, but here are some official numbers:
- Average Sale: $53,247
- Lowest Sale: $3,350
- Top Sale: $451,000
- Most Recent Sale: $35,500
We’re not sure what Collins paid for this one, but it was likely a substantial amount, considering the condition, mileage, and the fact that it’s all original.
