This Six Cylinder BMW Can Out-Accelerate A Tesla Plaid

This M4 is a bombastic example of what the BMW S58 engine is capable of when fully built. Well over 1,500 hp at the wheels, and 0-60 times under 1.8 seconds on a completely unprepped street surface. That’s more power than a Bugatti Chiron, and quicker acceleration than even the fastest production EV hypercars. To reach that power level, the S58 was given a thorough upgrading by MTech Performance, a high-end performance shop in Fort Lauderdale. This is not a stock S58, but the power drawn out of a relatively small engine is extremely impressive, especially as it clearly has immense torque as well.
BMW M4 Achieves Extreme Performance
The engine internals were built by RK Autowerks, with parts from 5150 Autosport. The cylinders have been sleeved and stroked to 3.4L, before MTech’s own single turbo system was applied. A Deka-upgraded transmission channels that massive horsepower to the tires. MTech has built nearly two dozen cars with their high-performance turbo kits, which almost by default makes many of their customers some of fastest BMW street car owners in the world. Their vehicles have reliably run 8-second quarter mile times, and can accelerate harder from 60-130 mph than most supercars can from 0-60.
Hypercar-Beating Speed

The B58 and S58 engines are prime examples of some of the best internal combustion engines money can buy right now. Of course, while the recipes to build these engines deep into the 4-digit horsepower range sound simple, they require serious hardware. An MTech turbo kit can retail for over $11,000, while the RK Autowerks built engine starts at $9,999 and that doesn’t include the $6,199 3.4L stroker upgrade. All told, even before labor, the parts that build these big-power modified BMWs cost roughly what a brand new GR86 does. And probably another good-condition Toyota GT86 worth of funds to install it all at a reputable shop that’s done it before. That’s still just half the purchase price of one of these comparatively unassuming BMWs, however. And nothing says sleeper like these cars do.
