5.3L V8-Powered 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 5-Speed

This 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was modified with a 5.3-liter V8 equipped with FiTech electronic fuel injection along with a five-speed manual transmission before the seller’s acquisition on BaT in October 2023. A replacement tub and body panels are also said to have been installed, as were aftermarket bumpers, four-wheel disc brakes, Fox Racing shocks, 17″ Black Rhino wheels, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The truck was repainted white and the interior was fitted with aftermarket front bucket seats trimmed in tan marine-grade upholstery in addition to a Vintage Air air conditioning system, a touchscreen stereo, digital gauges, and an Icon 4×4 steering wheel. Service under current ownership included installing an anti-inversion shackle kit and Ultimate Air Ride front bushings and replacing the front braking components. This modified FJ40 is now offered with a soft top, a roll bar, service records and an Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The truck is noted to have been fitted with a replacement steel tub and body panels and repainted Pearl White during the build completed under previous ownership. Custom front and rear steel bumpers were also added along with LED headlights, LED front and rear fog lamps, and aftermarket side mirrors. The windshield is said to have been replaced in 2023, and the previously installed soft top and roll cage are included in the sale. Damage is noted on a December 2023 invoice shown in the gallery.

The 17″ Black Rhino wheels are mounted with 285/70 Toyo Open Country A/T tires. An FJ80 power steering box has reportedly been added along with Fox Racing shocks. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs in addition to an aftermarket booster and replacement lines, and the front rotors, calipers, and pads were replaced in October 2023. Additional service under current ownership included adjusting the rear axle and re-installing the leaf spring perches and hangers as well as installing an anti-inversion shackle kit, Ultimate Air Ride front bushings, and a 3/4” Heim steering kit.

The cabin has been fitted with aftermarket front bucket seats trimmed in tan marine-grade vinyl with custom embossed logos on the headrests. Matching upholstery extends to the door panels, center armrest, and removable rear seat, and multi-point harnesses are installed for both front occupants. A Vintage Air air conditioning system has been added in addition to a Pioneer touchscreen stereo with a rearview camera and Apple CarPlay wired to speakers in the door panels. Additional equipment includes a locking center console, aftermarket pedals, a push-button ignition, billet shift knobs, and aftermarket push-out windshield handles.

The Icon 4×4 steering wheel is mounted on an aftermarket adjustable column and frames a digital gauge cluster that includes a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer. The digital odometer shows 41 miles, and total chassis mileage is unknown. The Arizona title lists “not actual” under the Odometer Reading heading.

The 5.3L V8 was installed in 2022 and is equipped with FiTech electronic fuel injection, a FiTech Fuel Force delivery system, stainless-steel headers, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The wiring harness was reportedly replaced in 2023, and the alternator was replaced in December 2023. Service in February 2024 included tuning the FiTech fuel system, installing Redline Tuning Quick-Lift hood struts, and replacing the battery.

Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A Centerforce clutch and FJ60-spec clutch hydraulics have been added, and FJ60-sourced axles and differentials are noted to have been installed. The transfer case crossmember was repaired in December 2023.
