1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

This 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was disassembled and refurbished under previous ownership following the previous owner’s 2014 purchase, and work included replacing the tub, reupholstering the interior, performing a repaint, rebuilding the 4.2L 2F inline-six, and overhauling the axles and electrical system. The truck is finished in yellow with a white roof over gray vinyl upholstery, and additional equipment includes a removable hardtop, a four-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, Warn locking front hubs, front disc brakes, inward-facing rear jump seats, a roll bar, front and rear heaters, and steel wheels.

The truck was reportedly fitted with a replacement tub and mounts, and the removed parts were media blasted prior to being coated in a two-stage epoxy primer with a sealer, and refinished in single-stage Mustard Yellow (532) enamel paint. Exterior details include a body-color hardtop with a roof finished in Cygnus White, yellow cadmium–plated fasteners, brass hinge bushings, a Confer frame-mounted toolbox, gray-finished bumpers, and ambulance-style rear doors.

Replacement gray-finished 15” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 31×10.50” BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires. A matching spare is affixed to the swing-out rear carrier. Work during the refurbishment is said to have included an overhaul of the front disc brakes and rear drums that included replacing the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake lines, and hoses. Warn locking front hubs were installed, and further work included rebuilding the steering box and fitting a new steering damper, shocks, bump stops, wheel cylinders, leaf spring bushings, and tie rod ends. Rust pitting is noted on two of the hubcaps.

The cabin houses seats that were fitted with replacement foam padding and gray vinyl covers under previous ownership. The dashboard pad and headliner are also said to have been replaced, and additional equipment includes a black powder-coated roll bar, front and rear heaters, and new shoulder belts for front occupants. The heater box and mixer box are said to have been disassembled, cleaned, resealed, and repainted. A Diamond-plate pattern rubber rear cargo are cover and floor mats were installed under current ownership.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color metal dashboard housing a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 78k miles, around 280 of which have been added since 2023. The previous owner indicated the total mileage is unknown.

The rear of the cabin houses refurbished inward-facing jump seats with new lap belts. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the driver-side jump seat, and a jack crank extension is mounted under the passenger-side jump seat. The jack and accompanying tools are found under the driver’s seat.

The 4.2L 2F inline-six was reportedly repainted, rebuilt, and bored .020” over during the restoration. Additional work at that time is said to have included rebuilding the carburetor and replacing the throttle shaft bushings, resealing the fuel tank, refreshing the four-core radiator, and overhauling the wiring. Additional work during the engine rebuild included replacing the following components:
- Pistons, rings, and bearings
- Camshaft, camshaft bearings, and timing gears
- Oil, water, and fuel pumps
- Thermostat
- Belts, hoses, and vacuum lines
- Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, coil, and battery
- Freeze plugs
- Engine mounts
- Exhaust system

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, both of which have reportedly been disassembled, inspected, and resealed. Additional work during the refurbishment is said to have included balancing the driveshafts, resealed the axles, resurfacing the flywheel, and replacing the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, and hydraulic cylinders. Corrosion is visible on portions of the suspension and steering linkage.

Repair manuals and three keys are included in the sale.
